Approach

Our Priorities & Core Competencies

Not only is HighPoint Hybrid Academy unique in that we utilize HighPoint Learning as our curriculum platform and offer two-day-a-week in-person learning groups, we also have some distinctive priorities.

We feel that many traditional public and private schools are unable to prepare some children for the real world and we desire to do things differently.

Our Core Competencies

Context

At HighPoint Hybrid Academy we create learning environments where learning flows naturally and is hands-on.

Curiosity

Our instructors value questioning, exploring, and wondering: God-given traits that drive people to learn. HighPoint students are encouraged to think through problems from all angles with a curious mindset and a can-do attitude.

Communication

Mastering the ability to effectively communicate is a goal that we have for all HighPoint students. Our desire is for each child to be able to express their thoughts and feelings clearly and confidently through writing and speaking in front of others.

Creativity

Students discover, invent, then take new ideas and put them into practice.

Collaboration

Working constructively within a group, HighPoint students learn to collaborate with peers to formulate and achieve goals. Through teamwork, we help students develop the skills to cooperate.

Community

At HighPoint we believe that everyone is created to live within a community. So as our students and staff grow to genuinely care for one another, a strong-knit community naturally unfolds.

Critical Thinking

While interpreting, understanding, discerning, and analyzing information, our students start to form reasoned arguments and perspectives.

This list is developed from Gifted: Raising Children Intentionally by Chris Davis and Creative Schools by Ken Robinson.

Practical

Tailor Your Workload

We do not pride ourselves on being “rigorous” at HighPoint – but relational, practical, and academic. The HighPoint Learning assignments are not busy work because we desire to be efficient in what is taught. If a child and/or parent feels they need more challenge and a more rigorous program, there is supplementary work available. Families are able to tailor the workload in a manner that works for their lifestyle while helping their child learn the subject matter.

Flexible

Freedom for Life

At HighPoint Hybrid Academy, we want families to have the time and freedom to do other things besides that which is strictly academic. The underlying belief is that students can learn so much from family interactions, the world around them, intentional experiences, travel, volunteer work, creative play, internships, and discovering and pursuing passions. The key is to allow children to have time to not be busy, but to explore, be curious, ask questions, create, and invent.
